"Our ambition of every adult citizen being a member of an active neighbourhood group … our alternative to big government is the big society: a society with much higher levels of personal, professional, civic and corporate responsibility; a society where people come together and improve life for themselves and their communities"
David Cameron advocates that the public should play a bigger part in having a say in how their public services are run. But the question is - do we really want to be able to make these kinds of decisions? After all, we don't know the in's and out, personally, I think we need a strong leader who represents what the public believe...do you agree?
The current labour government has spent around £100m a year promoting the idea of volunteering to the public. However, research shows that only 28% of the total population give unpaid support and time to voluntary groups, clubs and organisations throughout the country - rather shocking do you think?
Throwing money at volunteering obviously hasn't worked, so exactly what is David hoping to do differently?
The Tory party's national citizen service proposes to providing all 16-year olds the chance to spend a week away dong challenging physical activities and a subsequent seven weeks helping out on local community projects. To my surprise their proposal attained a 77% approval rate in a YouGov poll last week.

The problem I fear with these proposals is the fact that people have to VOLUNTEER to do this, are they likely to...I'm not so sure. Unless people are made to do something that are reluctant to do so, so should the national citizen service be compulsory to make it work? Can't wait to hear what you think...
I can't see this scheme working to be honest. I think he's just trying to win votes. Older people will be like wow this is great because it will get young people off the streets etc. but 16's and under can't vote so I don't think it's FAIR to propose something like this.
