The Vinvolved Project was set up by the government to inspire a whole new generation of 16-25 year olds to get involved in volunteering projects throughout the UK. V's aim is to encourage more young people to take an active part in the communities they live in, while helping young people to enhance their skills and meet new friends.
Portchester Community Association was one of the lucky few organisations to receive funding from V to run projects throughout the area and it's my job to raise awareness to the great things that the young people can become a part of.
The Portchester V Project is committed to creating projects for young people because they believe that all young people have a positive contribution to share with their local community. V aim's to create a culture where it is natural for young people to volunteer because they want young people to experience the huge benefits that volunteering brings and for these benefits to be celebrated by all!
Are you a volunteer? If so, what activities are you involved with? For those who don't volunteer - why not? Would you like to see more volunteering schemes in your area; are there no activities that you want to get involved with? Here's your chance to speak up!

Hi Cat, I'm 17 years old and I am considering becoming a volunteer. Vinvolved sounds like the kind of organisation that I would like to volunteer with but I don't know if they run any schemes in my local area? Also, I would love to join/ start up a dance group but again, I would not know where to start. Can you provide any further information to help me on this. It would be much appreciated. Caz
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment Caz, its great to hear that you are thinking about becoming a volunteer. To find out about volunteering opportunities in your local area visit http://vinspired.com/, alternatively you can visit http://www.do-it.org.uk/.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure about other organisations but I know that Vinvolved encourages their volunteers to set up projects that are inspiring and of interest to them. Those who are brave enough to start up their own dance, film, music or sports group receive full support from their mentors.
Once you have established where your nearest Vinvolved / volunteering scheme is held; why not talk to the project manager and see what opportunities they may have available for you. Thanks again for your comment; I hope this helps and good luck.
It would be interesting to hear from other Vinvolved volunteers from around the country. Is the organisation you work for flexible with regards to allowing volunteers to start up their own projects? Do you want to see more decisions being made by the volunteers and them given more control over the projects that are introduced? It will be interesting to hear your comments.
Hi Cat, I volunteer for vinvolved too. Like the organisation you volunteer for, our mentors are very encouraging when it comes to starting up our own projects. I'm organising a music event at the moment for young people in the area, it's quite tough because there is so much to organise but I'm enjoying every minute!
ReplyDeleteHi Julie, thanks for your comment. I hope your music event goes well! It's great that your mentors are supporting you with activities that you are interested in. Let us know how the event goes..
ReplyDeleteI have to say I worked with many volunteering organisations but the best experiences I have had have been with vinvolved. They listen to the needs and interests of young people and work hard at making a positive impact on the local community - great work!
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear you have had such positive experiences with vinvolved Jo. Please feel free to share some of those experiences with my readers...
